Arshiya Jeelani is a PhD student in History at the University of Kentucky, where she also recieved her M.A. in History. She is originally from North Carolina and completed a B.A. in Political Science and B.A. in History at the University of South Carolina.

She studies drugs and alcohol history of Kentucky and Appalachia. Her current dissertation project is on marijuana in Kentucky during the late-twentieth century. She is currently working on collecting oral histories on marijuana in Kentucky for her research. Her goal is to bring the largely unwritten history of marijuana in Kentucky to light through oral histories of Kentuckians to shed light on untold stories and perspectives that change our outlook on drugs and drug history.
