I have written several books on marginalized peoples included immigrants, the formerly homeless, the Hmong and Romanies published by Michigan State University Press. Jacky Comforty coauthored a book with me The Stolen Narrative of the Bulgarian Jews and the Holocaust. Currently I am working on a project painting the oral histories of Bulgarian Jews who survived the Holocaust.
Specialty
My areas of expertise include doing oral histories of immigrants in the greater social historical context. My current focus is the stolen but now reclaimed narratives of the Bulgarian Jews who survived the Holocaust. The Jewish narrative was not documented visually through photographs and film. Our evidence is the oral histories gathered by my colleague Jacob Comforty over 35 years and documents and laws. The lack of visual documentation has inspired me to paint these people's stories to honor their lives and stories.
