Brannon Smithwick

I have worked for the last ten years as a part-time freelance oral historian, primarily for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) Visual/Oral History Department in conjunction with the Academy Museum. Job responsibilities include researching prominent directors, cinematographers, production designers, and other notable film industry crew members for long form oral history interviews. Other responsibilities include drafting interviewee biographies, timelines, questions, and conducting a pre-interview prior to the recorded oral history interview, as well as conducting 3-10 hour oral history interviews with each subject.

Experience

I have ten years of experience as a freelance oral historian. I obtained a bachelors degree in Film Production from Emerson College in 2015 and have since completed masters degrees from the University of Southern California in Historic Preservation and Urban Planning.
