Her work often focuses on the cultural and social implications of data using the frameworks of gender and race and on applying equitable data practices to data projects. Thoni Howard is a founding editor, with Clare Daniel, of the award-winning guide Feminist Pedagogy for Teaching Online. Inspired by the guide, she co-edited an edited volume titled Feminist Pedagogy for Teaching Online (Athabasca University Press, June 2025).
