Oral History Associate – Jacksonville Public Library

The Oral History Associate is a 5-year Mellon grant funded position through the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation. This position will support the Mellon Foundation’s Memory Lab grant to enhance and expand the Library’s existing African American History Collection to greatly emphasize local history and culture.

Compensation:

  • $23.45 per hour

Job Description:

The Oral History Associate will be responsible for professional work facilitating oral history interviews throughout the community. This work requires a knowledge of oral history theory, methodology, ethics and professional practices. The successful candidate also supports the overall mission of the Library by providing service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience.

Examples of Work:

  • Develop/Implement an active oral history program from the ground up
  • Conduct oral history interviews according to best practices
  • Engage with the public through community outreach to identify potential participants and promote oral history project

Open Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a preferred concentration in Information Science, Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, History, or related discipline
  • High level of proficiency with computer desktop applications required; Audio and video production and editing skills preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of oral history theory, methodology, ethics, and professional practices
  • Applicable project management experience
  • Ability to engage with individuals and groups representing diverse backgrounds
